About the Artist
Parag is a multidisciplinary artist from Assam, currently based in Delhi ,whose practice navigates the intersection of cultural memory, food traditions, and socio-political resistance. His ongoing painting series, A Feast. of Identities, explores the diverse culinary heritage of Northeast India. Through large-scale, detailed compositions, Parag portrays regional dishes not only as sources of nourishment but as vessels of memory, migration, and identity. Drawing inspiration from Dutch still-life painting and contemporary menu aesthetics, he reimagines traditional forms to celebrate food practices rooted in community, ecology, and ritual. He highlights ingredients like fermented bamboo shoots, sticky rice, smoked meats, and fresh herbs—culinary elements that connect Northeast India with neighboring Southeast Asian cultures such as Vietnam, Myanmar, and the Philippines. These components become symbols of oral histories, shared resilience, and cross-border cultural exchange, setting his work apart from more homogenized representations of Indian cuisine.
In addition to his food-focused explorations, Parag’s practice addresses the emotional and social consequences of violence . He is deeply invested in how conflict shapes individual and collective identities, and his work seeks to raise awareness about the need for empathy, healing, and understanding. Reimagining historical paintings through a contemporary lens, Parag bridges past and present struggles, infusing his pieces with expressive brushwork, bold color, and poignant symbols.
Working across painting, drawing, and installation, Parag creates layered narratives that invite reflection and conversation. Central to his work is the idea of identity—not as a boundary, but as a connection, a shared human experience shaped by memory and resilience. Through immersive visual storytelling, He encourages viewers to engage with themes of belonging, ancestry, and cultural continuity, offering space for compassion and critical thought in a rapidly changing world
